When the WizKids returned from their break, they started on the cd rom game SimPark. The plan was to have them work with this game for at least two weeks. Unfortunately, the children had other plans. There was an overwhelming dislike of SimPark. They stated that the game was boring, boring, boring. SimPark is a simulation game where the player is asked to build and maintain a state park. The player is required to plant trees, shrubs, and flowers, and put mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians in the park. They are also required to catalog the plants and animals, as well as to keep track of their budget and email. Although the game focuses on plants and animals, the WizKids focused on putting people in the park. Instead of placing animals in the park and cataloging them, they focused on building tents and paths for the many people in their parks. It appears that the game does not disguise learning enough, and isn’t focused enough on people and what they do. So in true WizKids fashion, the children’s wishes will be adhered to and the portal will be utilized for the remainder of the time leading up to the holiday break. It is interesting to note that the children in the summer sessions really liked SimPark. They were different from the current WizKids in that the majority of them were not from the St. Louis Public Schools, they scored higher on their assessments, and they reported having computers in their home at a far higher rate than the current WizKids.
